This easy Microwave Poached Egg Recipe gives you perfectly tender whites and a runny yolk in just minutes. No stovetop required — perfect for avocado toast, breakfast bowls, or a quick protein-packed meal.

  • Total Time: 3 minutes
  • Yield: 3 minutes 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large egg

  • ½ cup water (enough to fully cover egg)

  • Pinch of salt (optional)

  • ¼ teaspoon white vinegar (optional)

Instructions

  • Fill a microwave-safe bowl with about ½ cup of water.

  • Crack the egg into a small cup first (this prevents shell pieces).

  • Gently slide the egg into the water. Make sure it is fully submerged.

  • Add a pinch of salt or vinegar if using.

  • Cover the bowl loosely with a microwave-safe lid or paper towel.

  • Microwave on medium power for 45 seconds.

  • Check the egg. If needed, continue microwaving in 10–15 second intervals until whites are set but yolk is still soft.

  • Carefully remove the egg with a spoon. Drain on a paper towel.

  • Season and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Microwave strength varies — adjust timing as needed.

  • For firmer yolks, cook slightly longer.

  • Always cover to prevent splattering.

  • Ensure egg is fully submerged in water before cooking.
