A refreshing and creamy cucumber raita made with yogurt, fresh cucumber, and aromatic spices. Perfect as a cooling side dish for spicy meals or a healthy dip.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups plain yogurt
  • 1 medium cucumber, grated or finely chopped
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp roasted cumin powder
  • ¼ tsp black pepper or chili powder (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh mint or cilantro
  • 12 tbsp water (optional, for consistency)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth and creamy.
  • Grate the cucumber and gently squeeze out excess water (optional but recommended).
  • Add the cucumber to the yogurt.
  • Stir in salt, cumin powder, and black pepper or chili powder.
  • Add chopped mint or cilantro and mix well.
  • Adjust consistency with a little water if needed.
  • Chill for 10–15 minutes before serving for best flavor.

Notes

  • Use thick yogurt for a richer texture.
  • Draining cucumber prevents watery raita.
  • Chill before serving for enhanced flavor.
