Family dinners are about the most wholesome meals you can have with the best foods you can prepare. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun trying to come up with some new family dinner ideas this week! Who says you need to go to a fancy restaurant or avoid crackers and breadsticks? There’s plenty of ways to have a great family meal in your own kitchen.
One of the great family dinner ideas is to make quesadillas. These delicious quesadillas are easy to make and are great for people who don’t enjoy cooking. Simply throw together a pan, a tortilla, fresh chopped vegetables, reduced-fat cheddar cheese, reduced-fat sour cream and blue cheese (or another flavorful cheese), and heat it on the stove until the cheese begins to melt. Then top with reduced-fat sour cream and cheddar cheese on top. Serve with chips or your favorite salad for a healthier option, or serve it with pasta instead of pasta tonight if you’re trying to keep your diet plan healthy.
Family Dinner Ideas Using Leftovers
Other family dinner ideas using leftovers are chicken nachos, vegetable lasagna, and old-fashioned omelets. All you need is a tortilla shell, reduced-fat cheddar cheese, chicken, reduced-fat ham, and vegetables. You can bake these at night, steam them in the morning, and then fry them in low-fat frying oil until they are crispy and golden. Leftovers like this are easy to store and reheat if necessary.
Another one of my dad’s family dinner ideas is grilled grits with apple cider vinegar. Grilled grits are easy to make, just mix equal parts of water and vinegar (great for reducing sour taste from cured meats) and season with salt and pepper to taste. Use the remaining liquid as a sauce for your burgers and hamburgers. Cook your burger patties in a skillet with enough oil to cover them (about two tablespoons per side) and place a quarter cup of grits on each side of your burgers to cook.
This next family dinner idea is one of my favorites: grilled corn. If you do not have red or green peppers in your fridge this summer, this is a great way to add some color. First get some tomatoes, jalapenos, and fresh cilantro. Combine all of your ingredients and let them marinate for about five minutes. When your peppers and cilantro are softened, remove them from the marinara sauce and place them on a plate.
One of the things I love about easy dinner recipes is that there is no need to be a master chef. Simply start out with some healthy ingredients (most of which can be found in your cupboards) and prep them up. One of the most delicious family dinner ideas is macaroni and cheese. You will need about one third of a pound of elbow macaroni (which can be purchased in bulk at your local grocery store) and a half a pound of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Start cooking your macaroni and cheese with the food processor attachment on your blender until it is blended well and then add the cheese to the mixture.
